The content of this module is designed by Dr. RajivK. Aneja (Ph. D., BRIDGE and EDGE fellow, USA). Topics will include Cultivating Algae, Scaling Up: Building a Bio-pond and Photo-bioreactors, Scaling Up (Part II) Building an Algae Green House, Scaling Up (Part III) Building an 80 Gallon Algae PhotoBioreactors, Harvesting and Oil Extraction, Large Scale Production Concepts, isolating and identifying microalgae, handling and managing microalgal cultures, screening for desirable characteristics, Analyzing lipids and higher-value products. Workshop modules will include hands-on bioprospecting, performing sample measurements, monitoring cultures for contaminants, and analyzing algal biomass composition. An exhaustive program in Algal Biodiesel Production dealing with both the basic as well as the advanced techniques involved in this latest technology. The program also involves Algal Photo-bioreactors handling, conversion of Algal oil to biodiesel and quality analysis of biodiesel.

Certificate Course in Plant Tissue Culture Technology

Plants have been conventionally propagated by seed and vegetative methods. Seeds are generally heterozygous and cause undesirable variability in the off-springs. Moreover, methods of vegetative propagation are not available for all the plant species. Further, these methods, wherever available, are slow and able to produce a limited number of propagules. Plant Tissue Culture has become an important alternative where any plant species can be cloned and a large number of genetically uniform disease-free plants can be obtained within a short period of time.
